 It
is said that ancient Malla King who ruled
Kathmandu, King Jayasthiti Malla (AD 1354
-1395) was the first ruler of Nepal to
be declared a reincarnate of Lord Vishnu.
Since then the tradition has been handed
down, all the way to the present monarch
King Gyanendra.
The Temple lends its name to the surrounding
village, also called Budhanilkantha, just
8 kilometer north of Kathmandu city canter.

is a traditional Hindu Kingdom where the
monarch is considered a reincarnation
of Lord Vishnu, one of the triumvirates
of Hinduism. So it is only fitting that
there be a monument to the Lord. Buddhanilkantha
is just such a monument, dedicated to
Lord Vishnu.
