Bardia - Bardia National Park

Situated in the Terai in Midwestern Nepal, Bardia is famous for its National Park. Spread on the flood plains of the mighty Karnali River, the Bardia National Park is home to such endangered species of wildlife as the Royal Bengal Tiger, one-horned Asiatic rhino, elephant and countless other species of birds and reptiles like gharial and dolphins. Bardia is also home to the indigenous Tharu community whose culture is ancient and unique.

The nearly 900 sq.. km park and its vicinity offers excellent opportunities for bird watching, jungle safaris, rafting, hiking and other adventure activities. Karnali, Nepal's biggest river flows from the heart i.e. the western boundary of the park. Different aquatic species such as gharial and marsh mugger crocodiles and Gangetic dolphins can be sighted in the area. The park and its vicinity is also a paradise for bird watchers.

Future for this park may hold further extension, doubling the area of the park by including another big forest area east of Nepalgunj, which is a very good sign for conservation and to uplift the park itself. The park can be reached through flights which connect the town of Nepalgunj with Kathmandu, from where visitors often hire a jeep to the park. The park premise homes resort and hotels that cater to all kinds of travelers.
