Ghandruk
Ghandruk is a famous Gurung village,
overlooking the picturesque lake town
of Pokhara as well as the breathtaking
Himalayan panorama. It is one of the
famous trekking destinations in western
Nepal. At 1,951 meters, the Gurung village
offers excellent opportunities to experience
the unique and colorful culture of the
Gurungs and breathtaking views of Annapurna,
Machhapucchre and Dhaulagiri.
A day's journey from Pokhara via Nayapul
and you will find yourself at Ghandruk.
Often, Ghandruk is referred to as a
living cultural monument in that it
continues to showcase the unique culture
of the Gurungs, who belong to the Tibeto-Burmese
community of Nepal. Most of the Gurungs
own hotels and restaurants, tourism
being the mainstay of their economy
and there are many retired soldiers,
who have served with the British and
the Indian Army, as will as the Nepal
Army making up the population.
