On
the northern arc of the Annapurna circuit
trekking trail, the sacred site of Muktinath
glistens with its natural and spiritual
charm. At 3,749 meters, Muktinath is a
sacred site for both Hindus and Buddhists.
It preserves ancient cultures and traditions.
Also known as Muktichhetra, it lies in
Nepal's unique Mustang district, just
18 kilometers northeast of Jomsom.
The main shrine of Muktinath
is a pagoda-shaped temple dedicated of
Lord Bishnu. And there are 108 traditional
and centuries-old waterspouts, which pour
the holy water- befitted around the wall
of the temple. Nearby, the Jwala Mai Temple
has a spring and an eternal flame fed
by natural gas that disgorges out form
the earth.
