The Sherpa village, or town, is the most happening resort area in the entire Everest region. It lies about a day's casual walk down the Lukla airport at an elevation of 3,480 m. All the essential facilities are available for the trekkers and mountaineers, including pool house, Internet cafes bars. Climbers and trekkers enroute to Everest Base Camp make it a point to stay here for acclimatization, which is considered to be very crucial to actually get to the higher grounds.

It is also the best place to study the unique culture of the Sherpas people. The Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee, which is bases here, is working to curb adverse negative impact on the pristine ecology and Everest region. There is also the Sagarmatha National Park visitor's centre, which showcases the unique features of the park. The park was established to protect the conserve the pristine ecology of that special alpine region housing Everest and other tall peaks.
