It lies just a few kilometer away from
the town of Palpa, down on the banks
of the Kali Gandaki River. The area
is famous for the Ranighat Palace, which
is perched atop a small mound over looking
the raging snow-fed river. Also called
"Tajmahal of Nepal", the palace
was built by Khadga Shamaher Rana in
1898 in memory of his beloved queen-like
wife Tej Kumari.
From the small rocky mountain on which
the palace sits, visitors can view the
white water river raging down toward
the Terai plains. More than anything
else, the area is famous for its beauty
both natural and cultural. The area
lies in between Ridi and Ramdi, two
famous pilgrimage sites for Hindus.
Devout Hindus collect the famous 'saligram
stones' from the river banks.
