Tansen is an ancient hill town, famous
for its architecture strongly influenced
by Newari migrants from the Kathmandu
valley. About half way towards the Indian
border town of Sunauli and Pokhara on
the Siddartha highway, Palpa is waiting
to be discovered by the tourists, although
many have already done so.
Palpa offers an opportunity
to experience genuine Nepali culture and
nature. Nearby, the hill of Shrinagar
offers breathtaking views of the Himalayan
range from Dhaulagiri to Ganesh Himal.
At 1,350 meters the Palpa experience a
pleasant climate though out the year.
Amar Narayan Temple, Amargunj Ganesh temple,
Tundikhel, Baggi Dhoka and Sital Pati
are some of the musi-see places in the
area.
This mountain hub is
inhabited mainly by the Magars and Newars.
Until 1700 A.D., Palpa was a separate
kingdom ruled by the farmed Sen Rulers.
After its conquest by the Shah dynasty,
and later during the rule of Rana family
oligarcha in the mid-Nineteenth to mid-Twenteeth
centuries, the area became known as an
exile kingdom where those out of favor
were sent to spend their lives.
There are ample facilities
for tourists in Tansen and at the Shrinagar
hilltop and Palpa is not just about Tansen,
there are more interesting places all
around. The model village of Madan Pokhara,
where communities have done an excellent
job toward conserving their community
forest, lies nearby.
