Tengboche
Another important place in Khumbu
region, Tengboche (4,240 m) is
famous for its Sherpa monastery,
where trekkers and climbers, escorted
by Sherpas, stop for religious
prayers. The ancient monastery,
renovated recently, looks spacious
and its multi colours add to the
beauty of the Khumbu region, spectacular
Everest and Amadablam against
its backdrop.
The area wears
a festive look, colourful Buddhist
colourful flags and lungtas fluttering,
during the Everest expedition season
in April/May and at the Maniramdu
festival in November-December full
moon. The high Rimpoche Lama gives
blessings to the visitors, who walk
into the special premises with traditional
religious pieces of clothes called
Khadas.
