Everest Base Camp Trekking

Everest Base Camp (EBC) trekking is one of the popular treks amongst the trekker.  It is one of the closest ways to be in front of the top of the world.  From the base of this camp, you will be able to get a majestic view of different 8,000 meter mountains like Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt.Pumori, Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt. Cho Oyu, and many more.  Each year, thousands of trekkers accomplish their dream to be front of the mighty Everest (8,848 m).  Although the altitude of this base camp is 5,380 m, you can be at the top of Kala Patthar (5,545 m) from where you will be able to get a beautiful view of the entire Everest region, magnificent mountains, glaciers, sunrise as well as sunset.  The trekking trail is little difficult as you hike up.  One must be careful enough not to suffer from altitude sickness.  In order to be safe from this altitude sickness, you must acclimatize well and avoid hiking up quickly.

Normally, it will take up to 12-15 days to reach base camp from Lukla, but it may take longer if one opts to trek all the way from Jiri, gateway to Everest.  It may take more than 20 days from Jiri to reach base camp.  So depending upon time availability and budget, one can choose their route.  One thing to remember while hiking is, you must be well hydrated throughout the trek and keep yourself warm.

Best Season to Trek Everest Base Camp

The best season to trek here is during March to May and September to November.  During this season, you will get a beautiful view of mountains and weather is just perfect to trek.  You will be walking up to 6 hours a day during this trek.

Journey to Everest Base Camp

Your trek starts from Lukla Tenzing-Hillary Airport, one of the dangerous and beautiful airports in Nepal.  Early morning scenic 30 minutes flight will leave you breathless.  Panoramic view of different snow clad mountains welcomes you after few minutes of flight.  The best way to get this view is to choose a window seat on your plane.  Upon landing, you will trek up to reach Phakding and rest for the day.  From there, next day, you will trek up all the way up to reach Namche Bazar, which is the famous tourist hub in this region.  There are many lodges, tea houses, cafes and banks.  We will acclimatize here next day and hike little up to Everest View Hotel and spend some time there enjoying the view.

Next day, we will trek to reach Tengboche.  One of the famous monasteries in this region, Tengboche Monastery is located here.  We will visit this monastery as well as local village in the leisure time.  From there, we will trek to reach Dingboche.  Trail is easy to walk passing through rhododendron forest and river banks.  Along the trail during the peak season, you will be able to see fellow trekkers from different part of the world.  From Dingboche, we will walk to reach Lobuche, a small but beautiful village with few guest houses and lodges.  From Lobuche, next day, we trek to reach Gorak Shep, last destination before reaching base camp.  We will take a break for some time here and continue to reach Everest Base Camp.

Few hours of walk, we will reach base camp.  We spend some time over here admiring the beauty of the Everest and surrounding mountains.  You will be surrounded by mountains and only mountains.  The other attraction here is Khumbu Glacier, largest glacier here in this region.  After spending some time, there we return back to Gorak Shep and rest for the night.  Early morning, we will hike up to Kala Patthar to get a beautiful view of sunrise from the top.  Getting to the top is most challenging part of this hike, but the view from the top is worth.  You will forget the pain after reaching the top.  Spending some time over the top, we now descend.  We may take same route or we may take other route from Khumjung and Monjo to reach Lukla and get on a flight to reach Kathmandu, concluding the trek.

Your Overall EBC Trekking Experience

During this trek, you will be able to witness the lifestyle, culture, and art of the local Sherpa people.  You will visit different monasteries and chortens.  You will see many prayer wheels and stone inscription during this trek.  You must respect the nature and try not to litter the trail.  You will be able to see different flora and faunas during this trek.

Overall, you will experience difference in this Everest Base Camp trek and you will take back a vivid memory of this trek to share with your friends and families.
